So many schools have been impacted by the LA Fires and this hit close to home. My friend Diane Farr raised her children in these schools and wants to get the word out to help them rebuild. 25 Public School Teachers lost their homes in the Eaton Fire.
This is my kids’ public elementary school in Altadena. A “grounder”, meaning burned to the foundation, by the Eaton fire. Along with it is an incomprehensible list of TWENTY FIVE PUBLIC SCHOOL TEACHERS who lost their homes at my children’s high school. Also burned in the Eaton Fire.
So many people have reached out from far and wide asking what they can do. Everyone in Los Angeles is already cooking. For those who lost it all and the firefighters saving the rest of us. People everywhere are already emptying their closet. To donate their clothes to those without any now. Others are buying the diapers and bottled water and sunscreen and soap. But I ask if you would join me in donating to this list of individual go fund me pages for these teachers. The amount of educators - some families are two teacher households - and their families who have lost everything is just so crushing.
We chose to be a part of and support public schools from kindergarten on. The east side of Los Angeles has its own rhythm. A mixture of artists and working class folks. There are more minorities, more skilled laborers, and larger families here. Familles live near their parents and grandparents. I don’t honestly know where the elementary school kids at the charter school that made my children who they are today will be able to go now. I do know that without teachers, there is nothing. Could we please show up for these men and women this time. They give our kids so much. - Diane Farr @GetDianeFarr
